Kindergarten Information Night

We held Kindergarten Information Night here at Berlin Memorial. Our goal in holding this evening early was to get a better sense of registration numbers for the 2016-17 school year and avoid any last second surprises.

Led by our Kindergarten teachers, Elizabeth Bennett and Jill Walton, parents learned a great deal about kindergarten schedules, expectations and the registration process. Thanks to our Betsy Trudeau, our Occupational Therapist and Mollee Langelier, our Speech Language Pathologist for their contributions. Suzanne Clisham, LINK president, was on hand to talk about our very supportive parents group, and Jess Meltzer, the Berlin chairperson for the BBRSD SEPAC group.

A special thanks to Judy Rapa, our school secretary, for all the behind the scenes work she does on registration and everything else!

Lunch time!

Just another lunch period here at BMS!

One of the nice things about lunchtime is that our kids get to unwind and be themselves.  Here are a couple of pictures including grade five students "unwinding" at midday.

Engineering is Elementary comes to Berlin!

Teachers from Boylston Elementary joined us today to learn more about Engineering is Elementary, a new addition to our science curriculum created by our friends at the Boston Museum of Science. We are all excited to be able to offer this new program to our students as we develop our STEM capacity.

School Picture Day, 2015

Mrs. Collins Grade 3 class getting ready for the big photo shoot!
Ah, school picture day!  One of my favorite school days, I love seeing the kids come in dressed for the moment.  These are pictures that will be saved for years, mementos of simpler times when our biggest worries were what was in our lunch box, and who would we play with at recess.

Thanks to everyone who contributes time and energy to make this day happen!

Harvest Time @ BMS

Many of you see the gardens in the front of our school as you drive past, and you may have wondered what happens to all the produce that is grown between the many gigantic sunflowers.

Amy Donahoe, Third Grade Teacher, and her many volunteers keep the garden weeded and watered all summer, and the plants and vegetables harvested go to the Berlin Food Pantry. Once students return, we try to use what is grown to enhance our own lunch program.  Here we have cafeteria manager Michelle Baird and Julie Wheeler bringing in some fresh tomatoes and herbs to use in salads.

Never too hot to learn!

Mrs. Woodward's students are hard at work this morning, reviewing vocabulary for this week. With fans whirring and windows open, the kids made the best of this hot September morning.

Winter at BMS

It's cold outside...
We've been living through a snowy period here at Berlin Memorial, with only a Patriots victory to brighten our days. I took this picture coming in to school this morning, impressed by the size of those icicles.  I thought that the scene was pretty until I got to the door and realized that there was just as much ice on the sidewalk.

Sometimes it is good NOT to be the custodian:)
